Klopp calls up Füllkrug and teenager Mohya to Germany squad
5.11.2026, 12:18
Germany coach Jürgen Klopp has recalled Niclas Füllkrug, 33, to the Germany squad after his recent scoring exploits and also named uncapped Borussia Mönchengladbach teenager Wael Mohya for Nations League games against Serbia and the Netherlands.
Since returning to Bremen in August, Füllkrug has scored 12 goals in 10 matches.
He was overlooked for Klopp's first squad, with the former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool boss mentioning Füllkrug's age as a factor.
But his form has convinced Klopp that he deserves a first call-up since September 2025.
“It was a pleasure to make the decision, and it was also a pleasure to tell him about it," Klopp told the streaming platform of the German Football Federation (DFB) on Thursday.
Ex-Dortmund forward Füllkrug, who struggled in spells at West Ham and AC Milan, has 14 goals in 24 Germany appearances.
There was again no place for VfB Stuttgart striker Deniz Undav, who was a rare bright spot in a poor World Cup for Germany in June.
Juventus forward Nick Woltemade is also not included, with Barcelona's Karim Adeyemi and RB Leipzig's David Raum other notable omissions. Bayern duo Jamal Musiala and Serge Gnabry are out injured.
Klopp had chosen a bumper squad of 44 players for his debut matches as Germany boss in September and October, but this time has picked 24 - with midfielder Mohya the only new face.
"There aren't many 17-year-olds currently playing in the Bundesliga - that alone is already an outstanding achievement. But he's also doing well," former Mainz striker Klopp also told DFB TV.
"I wasn't that confident at 17, but then again, I wasn't that good at 17 either."
Mohya has impressed despite Gladbach being bottom of the Bundesliga.
Germany are third in Nations League Group A2 after one win in four matches so far under Klopp. They drew with the Netherlands, lost at home to Greece, beat Serbia and were held 0-0 by the Greeks away.
Freiburg's Philipp Treu looks to have wrapped up the problem right-back berth and team-mate Derry Scherhant a spot on the wing after both excelled in the previous international break.
