Skipper Gwinn misses last Germany qualifiers; Berger recovering

Captain Giulia Gwinn will be missing due to a shoulder injury but goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger should be fit again when Germany aim to clinch a place at next year's women's World Cup in their final two qualifiers.

Gwinn was not part of the squad nominated by coach Christian Wück for the matches against Norway on June 5 and in Slovenia four days later. A victory against Norway will see the team through as group winners.

"Our aim is clear. We want to finish the group in first place and qualify directly for the 2027 World Cup in Brazil," Wück said.

Defender Gwinn dislocated her shoulder during a 5-1 over Austria last month. She returned to action at Bayern Munich but said she would require surgery after the club season.

"My last news are that she will be operated after Whitsun. I expect that to be the case within the next days," Wück said.

Winger Klara Bühl is back in the squad from calf muscle problems, and Sophia Kleinherne, Kathy Hendrich and Marie Müller also return from injuries.

Berger recently suffered an abdominal injury while playing for her American club Gotham FC but Wück said he has been told by the veteran that she is on the mend.

"She spent a night in hospital. But we know that there is no structural damage. She still has pain at the moment but she said she expects it to be better in a week's time," Wück said.
