Poll: Most Germans favour more aid for Ukraine, worry about wider war

Most people in Germany are willing to provide greater support to Ukraine as it seeks to fend off the full-scale Russian invasion, according to a survey.

Some 52% of respondents said that the West should provide more assistance to Ukraine if Russia is not prepared to agree to a ceasefire and peace negotiations.

Meanwhile 28% of respondents to the INSA poll said this should include both military and financial aid.

According to the INSA poll, commissioned by the Bild newspaper and published at the weekend, 28% said this support should include both military and financial aid. Another 12% said assistance should take the form of either money or weapons.

At the same time, 35% said Germany should stop supporting Ukraine, while 13% did not respond.

Germans continue to fear an even wider war, the poll found, with 54% concerned that Russia could attack a NATO member such as Poland or Lithuania, Bild reported. However, that is some 8 percentage points less than in a survey conducted last September.

The survey polled 1,002 people on February 5 and 6.
