Munich's famous surfing wave to be restored

The famous surfing wave on a stream in the southern German city of Munich is set to be restored, a surfers' representative said.

An attempt to reactivate the wave on the Eisbach stream is to be made in the coming days, Mathias Schmidt from the Munich Surfing Community group said after talks with representatives from the city and the state of Bavaria.

The wave has not been forming since Friday, when the Eisbach stream was undergoing an annual cleaning process.

Authorities are looking into the cause of the wave's disappearance, which could be tied to the cleaning or due to a lack of water. The city's building department assured that no structural changes had been made to the Eisbach wave or its surrounding areas during the stream cleaning.

Schmidt said a solution could be to raise the level of the Eisbach temporarily.

The wave was briefly closed to surfers in April after a 33-year-old surfer was killed in an accident when her leash got caught in the bottom of the stream.

Investigations into the cause of the accident did not yield any clear results. Surfing was allowed to resume several weeks later.
