FA chief: Germany could bid for another men's World Cup

Germany could consider a bid to host men's football World Cup for a third time in the future, domestic federation DFB president Bernd Neuendorf has said.

West Germany hosted the 1974 World Cup and the reunited country staged the 2006 edition. The last big event in the country was the men's Euro 2024.

Neuendorf told dpa in the run-up to the DFB assembly on Friday that another men's World Cup bid was a possibility.

"Our focus at the moment is on the bid for the women's Euros in 2029. But I can certainly imagine that we will address this issue in the future and examine the conditions under which such a bid would even be conceivable," Neuendorf said.

A bid would be for 2038 or later as the 2026 edition is in the United States, Mexico and Canada, the 2030 tournament in Morocco, Portugal, Spain, uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina, and 2034 in Saudi Arabia.

"It is clear that there are only a few associations in the world that have the infrastructure to host such a tournament with 48 teams and the meet the requirements that come with it," Neuendorf said.

"We can confidently say that we have excellent infrastructure. But it is really a long way off."

Germany bid for the 2027 women's World Cup but lost out against Brazil. The other bidders for the women's 2029 Euros are Poland, Portugal and a joint bid from Sweden and Denmark.
