Bayern title celebrations postponed after last-gasp Leipzig equalizer

Yussuf Poulsen struck with the last kick of the game to spoil Bayern Munich's official Bundesliga title celebrations for at least 24 hours in a 3-3 draw at RB Leipzig on Saturday.

Leipzig's Poulsen scored five minutes into stoppage time after Bayern had overturned a two goal deficit and seemed heading towards the title from Eric Dier in the 62nd, Michael Olise in the 63rd and Leroy Sane in the 83rd.

Leipzig had led from Benjamin Sesko in the 12th and Lukas Klostermann in the 39th against a Bayern side who were without their suspended star striker Harry Kane on a rainy afternoon.

Kane had already left the stands and was pitch-side ready to celebrate a first ever title when Poulsen struck.

Bayern can still officially be confirmed as champions of Germany for the 34th time on the weekend, if second-placed Bayer Leverkusen fail to win at Freiburg on Sunday.

Leverkusen only have a mathematical chance

Bayern are however effectively champions as they are nine points ahead of Leverkusen, who have three games to play, and have a superior goal difference of 30.

"The equalizer makes it a bit strange. It's an in-between feeling. But we all feel like champions," Bayern veteran Thomas Müller told Sky TV.

"There is a lot of joy that we came back in the second half. The team showed what this club is capable of."

Goalkeeper Jonas Urbig said: "It doesn't matter if we become champions tomorrow or next week."

The other games

Elsewhere, resurgent Borussia Dortmund climbed past Leipzig and Freiburg into fourth place with a 4-0 demolition of Wolfsburg from braces by Serhou Guirassy and Karim Adeyemi. Dortmund have garnered 16 points from their last six matches and are well in contention again for a top four finish.

Borussia Mönchengladbach played to a wild 4-4 draw with lowly Hoffenheim, who fought from 2-0 and 3-2 down to lead 4-3 before Gladbach's Tim Kleindienst had the last laugh in stoppage time.

Jens Stage struck twice early on for Werder Bremen before Union Berlin rallied to a 2-2; while in Hamburg Nick Woltemade first had a penalty saved before scoring a late winner for Cup finalists VfB Stuttgart at St Pauli, who had Siebe van der Heyden and goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj sent off.

Leipzig start well

But almost all the attention was on Bayern, whose Müller replaced Kane to earn a 749th Bayern match before having to leave after 25 years at the end of the season. Urbig remained between the posts, with Manuel Neuer on the subs' bench in a return from a calf injury that had sidelined him for two months.

Urbig made a huge early save against Amadou Haidara but Leipzig kept up the pressure and led after 12 minutes.

Xavi Simons played a long ball to Sesko from deep in his own half after Michael Olise lost the ball, the stranded Urbig slipped and Sesko fired into the empty net from some 35 metres out.

Bayern took a while to get into the game but things got worse for them when Klostermann headed Leipzig's second in the 39th off David Raum's free-kick from the left.

Bayern hit back

Bayern upped the pressure after the break, with Joshua Kimmich aiming just high on the hour.

Dier then got them back into the game by heading in Leroy Sane's corner kick at the near right post, and Olise drilled home for 2-2 a minute later after Aleksandar Pavlovic won the ball in Leipzig's half.

Bayern pressed for the winner, and thought they had it when Kimmich found Sane to curl into the left corner with seven minutes left.

Leipzig fight to draw

But Leipzig fought back and got a point when Simons found Poulsen who chipped over Urbig into the far corner.

"I am very proud of the lads that they believed until the end," Leipzig interim coach Zsolt Löw said.

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany said: "You always want perfection. That wasn't the case in the first half. But maybe we had the best moments of the season in the second half. I would have wished for something else in the end."

Other fixtures

The other Sunday games are Mainz v third-placed Eintracht Frankfurt and Augsburg v second last Holstein Kiel. Bottom club Bochum avoided relegation for now by playing to a 0-0 draw at third last Heidenheim on Friday.
