Man run over trying to catch train in northern Germany

A man has died after being run over by a train he was trying to catch in north-western Germany, police said on Sunday.

According to the police, the 52-year-old had tried to open the door of a departing train at Diepholz station, in the state of Lower Saxony, late on Saturday evening.

He was run over by the train for reasons that are so far unknown.

The man suffered such serious injuries that he died at the scene, police said, adding that the cause of the accident is being investigated.
