Trade with Russia is no longer free as a result of the war of aggression against Ukraine. Some players are trying to circumvent the sanctions. BMW is also affected by this.

Munich-based car manufacturer BMW has discovered irregularities in connection with car exports to Russia. Internal control measures have uncovered irregularities, according to a company statement. The further sale of vehicles has been stopped. ‘In addition, the BMW Group has decided to dismiss the employees primarily responsible,’ the statement continued.

The company thus confirmed a report by the ‘Business Insider’. According to the report, more than 100 high-quality vehicles were transported from the BMW site in Hanover to Russian customers.
As a result of the war of aggression against Ukraine, international trade with Russia is subject to various sanctions, including those imposed by the European Union. There is a strict embargo on the delivery of cars to Russian customers.

According to BMW, companies from various sectors are affected by the fact that their products are available for sale in Russia or are offered in Russia despite their own compliance with the sanctions. This is usually due to so-called grey market imports. The BMW Group is endeavouring to prevent this type of import with the help of various measures.
