Havertz says it will 'take weeks' to process Germany's World Cup exit

Germany forward Kai Havertz said it will take "weeks to process" the national team's early exit from the World Cup in Qatar.

"We’re all very frustrated, disappointed (...) it will take weeks to process this," the player wrote on Twitter on Saturday.

"Sometimes you get the high moments like Japan did, who played so well, and sometimes you’re left on the other side feeling this pain, it is why football is such an amazing sport," he said.

Havertz scored two goals in the last group stage match against Costa Rica, but the 4-2 win was not enough for Germany as Japan and Spain qualified for the last 16 from Group E after Japan's 2-1 win.

The 2014 World Cup hero Mario Götze also took it to Twitter to express his frustration.

"I’m still disappointed about how the World Cup ended for us," he said. "In the end, we missed too many chances and made mistakes in the wrong moments."

Götze scored the winner against Argentina to give Germany the title in Brazil in 2014, but didn't join the squad at the 2018 World Cup in Russia - when the nation was also eliminated in the group stage.

In Qatar, he only made two appearances coming from the bench, but said "it was a great feeling to be back representing Germany and I tried to give my best whenever I stepped on the pitch."
